Transforming a Mountain Home into a Smart Living Experience

Inside a Fully Integrated Smart Home in the Rocky Mountains
Welcome to Breckenridge, Colorado, where Dreamedia is transforming a beautiful mountain home into a fully integrated smart home. From audio and video to lighting, shading, networking, and security, this project covers everything.
Whether you're planning a renovation or new construction, this walkthrough shows how thoughtful planning and pre-wiring can futureproof your home for years to come.
Planning for a Smart Home Starts with Pre-Wire
Our team arrived immediately after the home was taken down to the studs. With no drywall in place, it was the perfect opportunity to plan every wire location.
We used detailed pre-wire diagrams approved by the homeowner, builders, and designers. Every speaker, shade, lighting circuit, and control panel was marked on the ground using color-coded plans and spray paint, making it easy for the crew to follow.
We also allowed for flexibility. For example, we left extra wire slack in rooms where the final layout was still in progress. This way, if the design changes, we won’t have to redo any major wiring.

Lighting Without Wall Clutter
This home features full Lutron lighting control, but you won't see rows of wall switches. Instead, all light switches and dimmers are hidden away in a centralized closet. From a single keypad, homeowners can control dozens of lights using simple settings like “Energize” or “Relax.”
This keeps the walls clean and the experience intuitive, especially helpful for second homes or rentals.
Shading Solutions for Every Room
We’re installing motorized Lutron shades in every window that meets the size requirements. For areas like bathrooms, we recommend switching to contact-frosted glass instead of using shades in high-moisture areas.
It reduces maintenance and keeps things looking clean. Each shade is hardwired and controlled through the same system as the lights for seamless integration.

Audio Zones and Media Rooms
This smart home includes an 18-zone distributed audio system using hardwired Sonos and in-ceiling speakers. Every room has its own music zone, including bedrooms and bathrooms.
The main media room will feature a 7.4.2 Dolby Atmos system with flush-mounted in-wall subwoofers and a custom RBH LCR soundbar. All electronics will be hidden in a central AV rack, keeping the room clean and performance-focused.
For rooms that didn’t allow for full surround setups, like the upstairs sitting room, we used a combination of in-ceiling speakers and soundbars to create amazing yet subtle audio experiences.
Outdoor Audio and Entertainment
The outdoor setup includes PA-style speakers, a weatherproof TV, and a Jacuzzi with custom speaker stands. These speakers are carefully positioned to avoid disturbing neighbors while still providing immersive sound.
Even the playground and pet area have their own dedicated audio zones. Everything is designed to be controlled easily from a phone or a wall-mounted touch panel.

Networking, Security, and Futureproofing
This home is wired for enterprise-grade networking, security, and access control. We’ve included conduit runs throughout the house, allowing for future upgrades without tearing into walls. Every access point, camera, and keypad is precisely placed and hardwired for long-term reliability.
Security is a top priority, so we're using a system approved for high-level government use. That includes garage door integration, door locks, video doorbells, and sensors, all managed under one smart ecosystem.
Choosing a Control System
While the infrastructure is already in place, the final control system (like URC, Control4, or Josh.ai) will be selected during the discovery phase with the client. The important part is that everything, from lights to audio to shades, is compatible and works well on its own. The control system simply ties it all together under one app.
